  • Overview

    Manchester Tank is seeking a dynamic and demonstrated results-oriented management team member for our Crossville, Tennessee manufacturing facility. This Assistant General Manager position will support the General Manager in leading and managing a strategic plan to achieve organizational objectives in safety, quality, delivery, operating cost, productivity and morale.

     

    The Assistant General Manager position is considered a developmental role with opportunities for growth into a General Manager position or other leadership roles within Manchester Tank and the McWane family of companies.

    Responsibilities

    • Direct senior staff members in Engineering, Quoting, Purchasing, Inventory Management and Shipping to achieve or exceed department goals and objectives.
    • Establish departmental goals and objectives; monitor and evaluate operating performance; provide direction, judgment, leadership and technical expertise to management team to maximize efficiency.
    • Accountable for all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in Safety, Quality and Productivity areas; ensure compliance with government regulations including OSHA and EPA standards along with company safety policies.
    • Establish a Continuous Improvement culture as it relates to manufacturing processes, setting priorities, capacity, scheduling, metrics, forecasting and employee involvement; plan and implement Lean MFG.
    • Build skills depth and backup within hourly employee ranks and succession planning for leadership positions.
    • Assist/lead in developing the annual budget for all functions; implement procedures to meet identified goals.
    • Assist/lead in establishing annual cost reduction goals and execution of goals for the organization to meet the division/corporate business plan

    Qualifications

    • A bachelor’s degree in Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering is preferred or an equivalent years of experience; MBA a plus
    • 7-10 years experience in a world-class manufacturing environment with superior safety, quality, service and productivity improvement track record – of which 5 years have been in supervisory and/or functional leadership roles.
    • Demonstrated involvement and leadership in continuous improvement, six sigma, lean manufacturing or other CI methodologies required.
    • ASME/ DOT Pressure vessel experience and/or metal fabrication and welding in a custom job shop environment preferred.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills required both internally with local team and senior management and externally with vendors, suppliers, customers.
    • Self-motivated and achievement oriented to achieve aggressive goals in a highly competitive and demanding market and environment.
    • Managerial courage to challenge the status quo and implement change as needed.
    • Strategic focus and leadership.
    • Strong leadership, influencing and mentoring skills; team player and builder with a bias toward action.
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills; logic and fact based decision maker.
    • Ability to manage/work in a union environment.
    • Must have history of impeccable integrity and ethics.
    • Significant experience in leading manufacturing-related safety initiatives.
