    The primary purpose of the Safety Coordinator’s position is to assist the Health & Safety Department in daily implementation and maintenance of training activities related to safety.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

    • Develop, implement and maintain occupational safety and health procedures and ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal health and safety rules and regulations and McWane Health & Safety procedures.
    • Perform health and safety audits to ensure organizational and regulatory compliance and develop corrective actions.
    • Oversee safety standards for new machinery or equipment to determine if all safety precautions have been included and recommend improvements to specifications.
    • Plan, schedule, conduct and track health and safety training to educate workers about safety policies, laws, and practices in accordance with training requirements. Coordinate first aid training with outside vendor when necessary.
    • Provide health and safety support to area departments.
    • Assist Safety Department with management of work-related injuries by completing required documentation, scheduling and tracking doctor’s appointments and notifying employee’s Supervisor of related activities including doctor’s appointments and any resulting work restrictions.
    • Maintain schedule of employee safety-related medical surveillance activities, including but not limited to respirator fit testing, audiograms and drug screening.
    • Assist Safety Department with management of Worker’s Compensation claims including entering relevant information such as clinic visits, doctor’s correspondence, etc. into software system.
    • Maintain records related to Worker’s Compensation claims in an efficient and organized manner either electronically, paper copy or a combination in compliance with local, state, federal and / or company requirements.
    • Assist with performing incident investigations, root cause analysis and provide guidance toward appropriate corrective action.
    • Assist with accident prevention measures
    • Participate in safety audits as required, including annual OSHA recordkeeping audits.
    • Participate with all OSHA inspections.
    • Coordinate completion of air and noise sampling with outside contractor in accordance with facility sampling schedule.
    • Assist with maintaining safety files and records, both paper and electronically.
    • Review and maintain current Job Safety Analysis (JSA’s).
    • Maintain knowledge of current OSHA regulations and determine facility compliance regarding those regulations.
    • Participate in or conduct safety meetings as requested for departments and committees.
    • Maintain approved contractor database; provide contractor training as needed.
    • Assist with internal and / or external safety program audits and reviews.
    • Assist with updating and maintaining facility safety programs.
    • Other duties may be assigned.


    Education and/or Experience                                            

    Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety or related field preferred, or the ability to complete degree within one year. Previous experience in safety or safety-related position desired but not required. Entry level candidates who meet the educational requirements will be considered.


    Computer Skills                               

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of and be proficient in Database software, Presentation software, Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.


    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    Not required. Applicant should be open to working towards advanced safety certifications, such as ASP and / or CSP.

    There is a fairly high noise level throughout the plant and hearing protection must be worn at all times while in the plant during production.  Wearing of other proper protective equipment including steel toe or metatarsal safety shoes and eye protection is required at all times while in the plant during production.
